New York is magical during the holidays. The spirit is cheerful and the shops are wrapped in ribbons and lights, decked out mid-November through New Years.

Drape yourself in your coziest coat, slip into your warmest boots, grab a hot cocoa and  bag of hot chestnuts from one of the many street vendors and hit the pavement to see the spectacular window displays.

Begin at the Macy’s window displays (Herald Square and Broadway between 34th and 35th streets).

Walk east along 34th Street to Fifth Avenue, then north on Fifth Avenue to the Lord and Taylor windows (38th and 5th Avenue).

Continue north up Fifth Avenue, past the New York Public Library, to the Saks Fifth Avenue windows (Fifth Avenue at 49th Street). Visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral, right next door, then admire the glistening, larger-than-life Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center across the street.

Still continue walking north up Fifth Avenue to Bergdorf Goodman’s windows at (Fifth Avenue at 58th Street).

Walk one block east to Madison Avenue and then three blocks north to the windows at Barney’s (600 Madison Avenue).

If you want to keep going, why not hit Bloomie’s–walk two blocks south to 59th Street and then a couple of avenues east to Third Avenue.

Now, it’ time to warm up your tootsies with a steamy cup of cocoa. My next blog will fill you in on where to snag the best cup in town!
